Childhood deprivation and preference for strong leaders correlate

This is the conclusion reached by a team of researchers who analyzed data from a large scale sociological survey...
(the European Value Survey, 2008-2010, conducted on 65,000+ respondents in 46 European countries).
Childhood deprivation and preference for strong leaders were operationalized as degree of agreement with two statements: “My parents had problems to make ends meet”, and “I think having a strong leader who does not have to bother with parliament and elections is a good thing”.
The correlation between the two was significant, even after controlling for current level of economic stress.
The study thus evidenced a specific effect of early socio-environmental threats on authoritarianism.
